Known History of Ownership:
Of all of the Items, only the Puzzle was stored in pieces (actually, it was
called the Weight way back in the day), probably as part of the precautions
taken to keep the Yami sealed until the prophesized time came. For three
thousand years no one had been able to pierce the Pharaoh's tomb and the only
one who survived, Mutou Sugoroku, walked out with the Puzzle Box. Sugoroku
mentioned in the first book that there were tales of curses befalling those who
attempted to put together the Puzzle but failed. If that is true, it makes you
wonder why he would hand over such a dangerous object to his own grandson at the
age of eight.
Known History of Ownership:
The Scale was first seen in the hands of Shadi, when Yugi met him at the
local Egyptian excavation exhibition from the work of one of Sugoroku's
archaelogist friends. Essentially, the Feather of Maat is placed on one balance
and the victim is asked three questions. For each lie, the balance of the scales
tip. Imbalanced scales are a sign of a liar (evil) and the person is punished
accordingly. Shortly before the group goes into the Pharaoh's Soul Room, the
Scales pronounce Bakura as possessing an evil soul and sends him away.
Known History of Ownership:
Again first seen in the hands of Shadi, it is also a rather constant feature
of his, always worn above his robes. It is supposed to be called a Key but I
like the term Ankh better. Using the Ankh, Shadi can step into another person's
mind/Soul Room and from there see everything about them. In theory, he can also
affect changes within there that will take affect in the person's behavior.
Usually, he uses the Ankh to see for himself the hearts of those who aren't
obviously evil like Sugoroku's archaeologist friend though he is still guilty of
desecrating the ancient tombs. Bobasa uses the Ankh to allow everyone to enter
the Pharaoh's Soul Room in the Puzzle.
Known History of Ownership:
Since it was obvious from the flashback so far that Yami Bakura did not initially have the Ring, nor was anyone planning on giving it to him, that his soul was sealed into it for another reason. Currently, our pet theory is that he was sealed within it as punishment, so close to the power he craved and yet so far...or so they thought. Perhaps Yami Bakura's sentience was too powerful even then, and could manipulate the Ring and to a certain extent its user. We know this is possible when he caused the Ring to point toward Rishid pretending to be Marik, to convince Yugi and the others that Rishid was in fact Marik bearing the real Millenium Rod. Another point of interest goes back to the incident that Pegasus accidentally witnessed in Egypt, where a thief who tried to steal the Ring was forced to attempt to wear it. The sign of his unworthiness was that the tines of the Ring plunged into him and the man was incinerated from the inside out. If Yami Bakura was 'awake' even then, he may not have wanted to be used by anyone except by his chosing. It then makes you wonder how the Ring slipped out of Shadi's guardianship between then and when Marik's father died. Yami Bakura was surprised to here about Marik meeting Shadi five years ago... which may mean that Yami Bakura knows something about Shadi that occurred between those two years or perhaps he was simply surprised that Shadi was already working toward the Pharaoh's return since then.
Though not its official power, the Ring seems to be sensitive to Dark Power
as demonstrated by its ability to serve as a radar for Millenium Items. In the
flashback, the bearer of the Ring commented how recently the Ring has been
acting erratically, probably disturbed by the rising Dark Power.
Known History of Ownership:
As mentioned in Pegasus' character description and in the interview with Takahashi-sensei, Pegasus was being used by the Eye to create something similar to the tablets used in Ancient Egypt (they were not real games!!!). His talent as an artist was perhaps a very good reason why he was chosen, in addition to the despair and depression he was wallowing in were ripe fields for Yami. I still find it disturbing that you must take out one eye in order to use this.
The power of the Eye only lets the user read the mind of one person. For
people like Bakura and Yugi who have another soul residing in them, the other
soul cannot be read because it is not in control of the body. It's like being
able to see a person standing before a door but not the one standing behind it.
Known History of Ownership:
Considering this Item's power, I'm betting that its user during the time of
the Pharaoh also foretold the eventual return of the Yami and the Pharaoh's
wandering soul (i.e. the sealing will fail) and is one of the founders of the
Tombkeeper line. The Tauk directed Isis in setting up the confrontation and
trial of the Pharaoh, perhaps to directly counter Marik's divergence from the
famiy code by seeking the Pharaoh's death. Perhaps there is a rank to the
Millenium Items since the future foretold by the Tauk to Isis was destroyed by
the Rod's interference with Seto, preventing him from giving Obelisk the order
to attack and instead, through influence of the BEWD related memory it showed to
him, had him call upon BEWD instead. Isis claimed the Tauk lost its power
afterwards but later the Tauk revealed a vision to the Pharaoh in order to
convince him to return to the duel stage after Jounouchi's death. So again, the
Items are manipulating people, even the Pharaoh, to reach the desired outcome.
Known History of Ownership:
The Rod's official power is to manipulate a person's memory, something Marik kind of converted into a semi-brain control, put a bit of myself in you thing. This was how he was able to 'communicate' with all of his minions, by simply awakening the part of himself that was in them and looking at things through their eyes. So I'm not sure if you could really call it telepathy when both people are already in the same head. The only Ghoul member he didn't use the Rod's power on was Rishid.
Priest Seto apparently used the Rod's power on the stone tablet of memory on
display in the museum, using a memory from when he still served the Pharaoh. The
priest's other memories, all or select ones, were also stored within the Rod
though what the trigger is for each is unknown. The first flashback granted in
addition to the vision knowledge of hieratic. The second flashback showed that
even when the world was going to hell in a handbasket, these two can't lay aside
petty rivalries but will duel with the world crumbling around their ears.
