Whether it be 'I have a dream', by Martin Luther King, Jr or ' That's hot' by Paris hilton, throughout our lives, we will most likely base some of our decisions and find guidance based on what others have said in the past or present, whether they be from someone of high importance or just regular, everyday people.
What are you own words of wisdom? How did you find yourself to come to these words? What do they mean to you? What do you hope they will mean to others?
"One should only be called a freak when they choose to use the term freak"
I find the word 'freak' to be a brutal word. Why must we use such a word to describe someone for being an individual? We are all different, meaning we may look different, talk different and/or see things in a different way. If someone will purposely go out of their way to ridicule someone, then only they should be dubbed as a freak. I hope people see this as well.
"A true man is one who does the complete opposite of what society tells him to do in order to be a true man"
I believe anyone is true when they do things according and based on what they think is right. When you act and do things because others tell you, then I believe you are only hurting yourself. Society, to me, is just one big group of people who look, talk and act the same. If you rise above and choose to be yourself, then you are being true to yourself and I find that admirable.

words of wisdom...i apologize for the misinterpretation i have done and i want to clarify that i did not mean any clashings of ways of life... anyway... "Forget your past, but don't forget the lessons of it." I think its my way of saying let bygones be bygones. But for the fact that this has been really my hard point...meaning actually applying what i learned..bottomline is, for me the past isn't timeline to dwell in...but somewhere to reflect on. *i might re-edit. Again...I apologize for all inconveniences.

===livinginfaith_48=== I live for God, I die for God...I won't kneel before others but God...
War is not neccesarily between two countries...so much has been misinterpreted about it...what we need most is to "war" in our inner self...to fight that being who just won't listen to what's right...
Words...lettered expression of what is within me...I wish, I pray to God to guide me...that I may put into action what is within me...for the betterment of those around me and that He may be pleased with me

@livingfaith_48: The topic title said "Your Words of Wisdom", I believe that you understand that you should give words built by your experiences , not ones from others and see as true and wise, unless of course noone hve a problem with this, but I personally would like to know what is in your mind.
What I would say in response to the topic? Possibly later, may you consider this rude after what I said regarding livingfaith_48, but I have nothing but to apollogize for that.
I wonder if debating what is mentioned is possible?

It's alright Modi. I wasn't sure whether or not those quotes were her own or someone elses. I don't have the proper resources to look them up. Livingfaith_48, please state whether or not these are your own words or someone elses. If they aren't yours, please change your response. If they are yours, then keep them as they are. However, I'd prefer this topic to be without reference to any sort of religion.
This topic is to post your own quotes. Please do not talk about what your favourite quotes / people who have been quoted / both. Please refer to my first post as to what I'm expecting others to write about. I'll allow debating. Since everyone's own words are based on opinions, If someone wishes for their own words not to be discussed, then please respect that.

QUOTE "Forget your past, but don't forget the lessons of it." Why would one forget his past, if one appreciates his present, since whatever his past is harsh or for some reason not prefered, it's still the one which lead to what he is. Though if his current state is not one to be liked, then ambition, hard work and satisfaction would help in giving some kind of happinnes. QUOTE "A true man is one who does the complete opposite of what society tells him to do in order to be a true man"
I believe anyone is true when they do things according and based on what they think is right. When you act and do things because others tell you, then I believe you are only hurting yourself. Society, to me, is just one big group of people who look, talk and act the same. If you rise above and choose to be yourself, then you are being true to yourself and I find that admirable. Being different doesn't mean being opposite to what society says, some of the concepts and tridition in society can hold some kind of truth, even though a few members of society won't be able to explain how true and right these triditions are, it doesn't deny the fact that these triditions are right; a lot is needed to find the truth. That doesn't mean each shouldn't find his own way, but one shouldn't aim to be just different, but different in a sane way, though not necessarily convincing to those sorrounding him.

Investigating what is good by one self on the first place as opposed to blind belief in so called norms is, I believe, what livinghfaith had on mind. It is not about rejecting everything as in the end the result might be that one will agree with the views boosted by society. In general, the biggest fault of society is that it doesn't support using own common sense but states the matters as facts thus convincing one not to look further. If something is passed for the sole sake of keeping tradition or whatever then people themselves deny thinking beings. The moment when something loses possibility of finding sense in, it loses the meaning as well. In order to continue something, to agree to something stated, a human needs to do it remembering/experiencing the reason of this imitation. No activity should be only a mechanical routine. And what is insane? Another variety of human's state conditioning a behaviour which doesn't fit into the boundaries of norm? A human regarded as such can be just a being who reached the point of much more personal freedom than anyone who didn't try. The problem might only be that they got stuck in one point on their way of releasement.
"Forget your past, but don't forget the lessons of it." The one who lives in the past either stays at one point without developping themselves or leads misearabe life if the past was such. It indeed seems to be the past which blocks a human in a similar way as do one's thoughts when being continuously ahead of the present. A completly opposed situation is paying attention to the reflection over the cause and the effect with the progress as the most important part between them. Not the sole past forms the human's present but the way one lived through it. Living on ambitions, as an example is one of the means to interrupt the course of past/presence. It is some form of runaway as their presence is enough not to live past in at least this very moment.
If I were to give a proper answer, the one which would suit to the question, there wouldn't be such. None is seen by me as the one giving any sign of being wisdom. The most accurate way for bringing anything important to light would be just bringing particular matters which would evoke concrete question. There are certainly such which aren't obvious whereas I don't see anything special about them.
Perhaps the statement like this one would be some sort of summary of them all: The mind of yours is both your friend as well as the enemy.

"Life is a worthless place to live in, but do you commit when you see roaches" That's the truth I see life in, not worthy to live, commiting suicide seems sometimes a sane option to take, but that would cowardicy and quite shamefull, so just just go against the flow and face off these disgusting roaches(life's problem) and wait for death.
"War is a an agly act to play, so do we always surrender? no, but we keep fighting, with beliefs that we are right, until the inevitible pays us a visit" I don't think this one needs explaining, just my view on war.

Life is worthless if one doesn't live it in a deeper sense. Life is not endurable when one finds itself in the darkness without at least the smallest torch that would show them the way out. The plain cover of the darkness torn in its nothigness by even the frailest stream of light that is enough to arise hope; to remind one of other existence than despair, madness, emptiness, insecurity and/or spiritual encirclement. A human gropes on their way of searching. However they carry the equipment which they have earnt on different fields which supports them, therefore they are able to cope with the situation sooner or later - depending on the intensity of this 'property'. There is even the simplest cherishing hope among them that tomorrow will be better, which is left as a last resort. It happens that one loses their package in one moment and doesn't get it back despite their repetitive trials in the many various ways - if they are 'lucky' enough to still be given such possibility. Thoughts become harder to be recognised as one's own, those which exist are dull, deprived of any emotional tinge which would push one out of the cage of their own mind. I don't provide my support to solution as free-will suicide but I would like to turn attention to the state that can lead to such point. Because should one speak of cowardice when these senses resposible for one's reality stop giving information that there has ever existed the one to live in.

@Meeja: Actualy there are differences between each gender's clother that is simply because both genders have differences in their physical structures, it would only be logical fo the difference to exist, though your example about skirts and kilts is quite since there is not much of a difference, except for the materials and the way of making them, but dresses and robes do have a difference. QUOTE Life is worthless if one doesn't live it in a deeper sense. Even if one gave a deeper meaning to their lives, the problems which one faces through his life will still be many and irksome, that's why life is worthless because there are always something to ruin what you have or at least pollute what little happiness you may get. When we give life a meaning that would be a reason to continue not to give up and reach the end of the journey with a smile, not with a miserable heart, a weak mind and a barely existent soul, sadly many fall in that place.

The fight to achieve, mantain, or come back to the sense one learnt makes life valuable already. Nothing disappears, it is just the slide through which we perceive, that changes. Once troublesome and constant obstacles, at some point they simply lose their negative influence (by no means by the attitude of indifference or resignation). QUOTE life is worthless because there are always something to ruin what you have or at least pollute what little happiness you may get. If you reach a solid ground (which has some rules in order to be called so), there is nothing that could become a serious threat to your achievement even if fight doesn't cease.
