Yu-gi-oh! GX is situated a few years later in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Series. The main Character is Jaden Yukki who just barely passed into duel academy, due to his test results. However, with his amazing dueling talent, and skill, he sets off on a mission to prove that test scores are not everything!
GAMEPLAY 7.5/10 The Gameplay is the old classics, with a twist. Collecting cards, buying packs and scheduelling duels are just some of the many million new twists to the game. Packs are unlocked one by one and there are certain criteria that have to be met before a certain pack is unlocked. There are in-game 'events' that make it more exciting. These can also produce free cards and, most importantly, E-mail addresses. E-mail is only used for six characters(Jaden, Syryus, Chumly, Zane, Alexis and Chazz), but they allow you to scheduel duels in the week, when you would not normallly be allowed to duel. They say yes most of the time but there are some execeptions. They ALWAYS say no on a Tuesday morning and a Friday Exam Day. There is also an in-game tutorial, which is very long and detalied, so this can help anyone that is new. (A little secret: Beat Basiton and Alexis 3 times and read all the tutorails. You may find something new in the shop...) Speaking of Exams, that leads me on to my next topic, exams. Exams are taken every month (with one or two exceptions) and they can change THE WHOLE GAME. They can change your dorm and, more importantly, your rank. There is a system of Ranking in this game. They range from Dropout boy, to King of games. Currently, I am writing a FAQ for the Practical Exams, but they are divided into three sectios. They are written, practical and Timed duels. To get king of games, you must answer all timed duels correctly and do 40(Alot, isn't it? May seem like only a little) of the written paper. DUELING 5/10 Dueling is the same as it ever was, is now and ever will be. It is really like WWE, STTDD (world wide edition). There are simple cards and nothing but. If you were expecting a game like NT then you were wrong, wrong , WRONG! About the only thing that the kept from NT was the fields, which they have mde CRAPPIER. Basically, you have a square in the middle, and they replace it withe the pictures of the card in question. One thing that is good, is that when you go in for the kill, if the character is a sig character, then they do a funny animation (ESPECIALLY ALEXIS!) STORYLINE 0/10 There is no story to play through. Just sitting around waiting for the year to pass by... SOUND 2/10 Again, not the best Konami could ever do. But then again, all gameboy music is good for about five minuites. RPLAY VALUE 10/10 This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! The events are different every time, there are also different oppertunities each time. What can I say ... BRILLIANT! This is what makes me give it an 8. Packs are unlocked in different orders, events happend diffferently, get different cards in each pack... I WANT MORE! CHALLENGE LEVEL 8/10 THIS IS THE FIRST GAME OF YU-GI-OH WHICH THEY ACTUALLY PROVIDE A CHALLENGE! Yes, they may slpi up son the occasion, but they do get lucky and their challenge is of very good quality. OVERALL 8/10 Yes, a good game indeed. This is one worth looking for. It comes with three GOOD THIS TIME Promo's so keep an eye out for it. It is worth the money if you know what to expect from a Yu-Gi-Oh Game. A fine game, watch out for the story line though. -------------------- |

Some things I disagree with this review:
Replayability is not that good as you make it out to be. True there are different events, booster packs being unlocked and such, but once you hit the high ranks (Prince of Games or King of Games), the fun is pretty much over. My second complaint about this game which bugs me in almost EVERY Yu-Gi-OH! game is that HALF of the entire card library is missing. In this game, only 1200 cards are featured in this pack. Though I would give credit to Konami for using the max GBA cart size on this game (for their first time), they could have cut out the animation sequence effects for all it is is just fancy fluff which is good to watch for the first few times (then it gets boring). The space they used for battle animation sequences could have been put to a whole lot better use say, I don't know, maybe PUT IN MORE CARDS since the 1200 card library is not sufficient enough for any player to be creative with their decks. If you really want a good Yu-Gi-Oh! game, you should check out Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultimate Masters World Championship 2006. That game has over 2000 cards (better than lame 1200) which allows you to create as many deck combinations as you can think of possible. True the Yu-Gi-OH! 2006 game does not have all the razz-ma-tazz that this game boasts, but then when it comes to creating REAL decks and being able to test them out with other WELL BUILT decks, who cares about that nonsense? Yu-Gi-OH! games should be all about being a perfect card dueling simulator while maintaining all the cards in the entire library (as much as possible) so that players can build realistic decks and see how much they can fare against other decks. In fact, the reason why Yu-Gi-OH! 2006 does a lot better in terms of replay is because of the huge card library which in turn offers almost infinite possible deck combinations. Succeed in building a strong Dragon deck? Save it and work on building a strong Undead deck. Rinse and repeat until you have 60 strong built decks (for thats how many decks you can save in this game). This post has been edited by Hypr: May 22 2006, 07:08 PM |

I agree with that... However... You have to consider that it's a video game as well... and the eye wants something as well...
To admit I like Yu-Gi-Oh NT for DS better... Because it has more action and more spirit to the anime... Altough not all spirites are good in the game. -------------------- ![]() ![]() The son family ^^ (DBZ) |

Ok I have to agree with some of that.... Yu-Gi-Oh GX Duel Acadmey is a good game.
It has no story line but with the level of challenge and gameplay action it doesn't need a story line.... however in some parts of the game there are set tasks you must complete before advancing further into the game such as when Dr Crowler hired Titan to duel you in order to exspell you from Duel Academy for humilliating him and the rest of the Obelisk Blue dorm for beating them in duels soo many times Also there are exams at the end of each month when you can advance to the next dorm or rank. There are three main parts to the exam. a written exam, a skills exam and a practical exam at the end of the exam your marks are added up from all three exams and you are given an overall mark which is put up and ranked with the other duelists you have dueled before the exams. However after the exams if you don't meet the reqiurements to move up the ranks you will automatically get put down to the rank of Dropout Boy/Girl. which I find adds more pressure on to the game. However there are a limited number of duelists you can duel on the Island which for me dueling them over and over again is abit dull and predictable. Overall it is a good game and I have enjoyed playing it. -------------------- ![]() DON'T MESS WITH THE DARK MAGICIANS |
