My favorite? That's a tough one. Well My most favorite one has to be, at the current moment, Diamond. It's okay, other then the fact that I have to use a translation guide it's cool. The pokemon were somewhat messed up, but overall I enjoy playing it. My old favorites are in the following order, Yellow, Crystal, Sapphire, Green Leaf and Emerald.
I have to say Yellow version was awesome. I enjoyed using Pikachu as a starter, very funny, I have to say. Crystal was okay, it introduced many good future, but sadly EVs were not introdued here, Silent Mage. If they were then we could have traded from Red, Blue and Yellow to Silver, Gold or straight to Crystal and then traded to Ruby, Sapphire, Fire red, Leaf green and Emerald. The difference from the systems they were from didn't make a differe, since we can trade with XD Gale of Darkness, Collesum, and the upcoming Diamond and Pearl, You need a japanese emerald to trade with the japanese diamond and pearl, so my friend told me. Anyways, I enjoyed Crystal a lot. Sapphire was my favorite because you could get Kyogre. Leaf green was my favorite for the fact that it was the one I got as a gift, lol. Emerald brung the battle frontier. Though What I got to say that made Sapphire, Leaf green and Emerald was the EV system. Though I will stick to what I believ that Crystal didn't start the EVs, though I know that you, Silent Mage, did put "I think" beside it.

yellow: old school, pikachu starter, pokemon look way better than in red and blue
ruby: Hey team rocket ain't the only evil organisation
colleseum/XD: yes finally steal pokemon (pitty you can't steal normal pokemon 2) nice lugia shame to purify it
but most times everything stays the same just more pokemon, attacks and a new character

My favourite was Pokemon Silver.
I loved that so much, it was original, and as Silent Mage said, it opened up so many new features. I also liked being able to travel between regions.
I didn't like Yellow at all, really. I don't like pikachu much, and it annoyed me not being able to have a choice of starters, and then not being able to evolve the darned thing after it got a decent moveset. :P

XD was pretty fun, though. You cold snag way more pokemon than Colloseum, and purifying then wasn't as tedious.

i just finished playing Both Diamond and Pearl version.
For now, Pearl is my Favourite Poke'mon Game.
And the pokemon from the Pearl Cover is cool too

Crystal had everything I wanted out of the series, anything beyond that just got kinda silly and boring.
And the addition of even MORE pokemon was just annoying. Didn't work for me.

I didn't half mind Fire Red though, I bought that for Nostalgia reasons. And I enjoyed it. Kinda short since I Was a sheer expert at the old two and got through it in days. Caught em all too.

Utterly disregarding that Red and Blue were infact the originals. Yellow was a special edition that came a year later.
