Alright lately I've been seeing alot of rulings topics, and it is creating a bit of spam. so I created this topic to give us more control and so you can find if your question has allready been answered.
Just a few rules first up.
1. If you want to ask a ruling do it here, if i see a ruling thread elsewhere it will be deleted.
2. If u have multiple questions as them in the same post.
Example:
1. can wobaku be activated when jinzo is on the field.
2. can a trap card be activated the turn you set it.
3. When answering make sure you explain your answer. Don't just go no and leave it at that.
4. Make it clear which question your answering.
5. If a question has been answered DO NOT GIVE THE ANSWER AGAIN.
6. If the answer is wrong, your post will be deleted as to not give the wrong rulings.
7. Try not to ask the same question twice.
8. If you break any of the rules, Smods and Administrators reserve the right to warn you.
Mods and Smods I would greatly appreciate your help in helping me maintain this.
Overall this is to help you people.
Mickey: Re-Edited for grammer. I'm crap at grammer myself but atleast can people put "I" not "i" etc all time makes people's post seem alot tidyer.

I will go ahead and note that this thread is Locked and any reply from a moderator or administrator other than Mickey will be deleted. If another moderator or a forum administrator needs to discourage these type of topics, I ask that they delete this one and post a general rule to not post these again.
This topic will be my civil attempt to give general help to newer players or those who just can't figure out what's wrong with their Deck. I'll update this thread as I find time to jot down a few notes. This will be extremely small at first, but I'm hoping to grow it into a fairly comprehensive guide.
General Gameplay Rules:1. Do NOT follow the Anime. They do a LOT of things that are not according to the rules.
2. Go through the Flash demo at
Upper Deck Entertainment's Learn to Play section. This should teach you the very basics of the game.
3. Download the Version 5.0 Rulebook from that link. It's in PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat to view it.
4. You cannot activate Spell Cards during your opponent's turn. The
only exception is a Quick-Play Spell Card that you have had Set on the field for at least one turn.
5. All monsters with 5 or more Level Stars need you to Tribute (send to the Graveyard from your field) at least one Monster. Level 5 and 6 monsters require 1 Tribute, while any Monster with 7 or more Level Stars requires 2 Tributes.
6. There are two official formats for Yu-Gi-Oh: Traditional Format and Advanced Format. The two formats' lists can be found at
Upper Deck Entertainment's Forbidden/Limited Card Lists page. These lists show you what's Forbidden (0 of the card in the Deck and Side Deck combined), Limited (1 of the card in the Deck and Side Deck combined), and Semi-Limited (2 of the card in the Deck and Side Deck combined). It's generally an understood that all players, casual or tournament-level, play by at least the Traditional Format list.
General Deck Building "Rules:"1. Keep your Deck as close to 40 cards as possible. This way you have a higher chance of drawing what you need. Stall Decks (those Decks that keep an opponent from attacking you) will need more so you don't loose to the "Deck Out" rule (if you can't draw a card because your Deck has 0 cards left, you loose the Duel), while "Instant Win" Decks (decks based around getting Exodia into your hand, getting the Last Turn + Jowgen the Spiritualist combo set up) will need almost
exactly 40.
2. If you find a card that can be really helpful for your Deck, run multiples of them. If you only have 1 copy of a card in a 40-card Deck, you generally have a 2.5% chance of drawing it. If you have 2 copies, though, you're up to a 5% chance.
3. If you find a few cards that essentially do the same thing and they're useful in your Deck, run multiples of both. For example, let's say you want to easily negate Traps. There are 3 Trap Cards that negate other Trap Cards easily: Royal Decree, Seven Tools of the Bandit, and Solemn Judgment. If you only put in 1 of these with 3 copies of it, you have roughly a 7.5% chance of drawing it. However, if you put in 2 copies of each of those 3, you now have a 15% chance of drawing a Trap-negating Trap.
4. Use Pot of Greed, a Spell Card found as a Common in the first 4 English Structure Decks. For one card from your hand, you get to draw 2 cards. This also has the side effect of reducing your remaining Deck size by 2 cards, which is extremely helpful if you're playing an Exodia-based deck.
5. If your Deck is based on a specific theme (FIRE Attribute, Spellcaster-Type, Level 3 Monsters with 1700 or more ATK), try to refrain from using cards that do not fit the theme. For example, if you're building a Spellcaster-Type deck, why would you put in a Cyber Harpie Lady, a Winged-Beast-Type monster? On the same token, make sure you use cards that fit your theme. For example, if you use Dark Magician you might want to use Skilled Dark Magician since he's also a Spellcster-Type with a strong ATK for a monster that's not Summoned with a Tribute(s).
6a. If your Deck is "Tribute heavy" (it uses a lot of Level 5 or higher Monsters), consider using ways of keeping your Monsters on the field so you can Tribute them. For example, Spirit Reaper cannot be destroyed as a result of Battle, so you can Set him and you'll more than likely be able to use him as a Tribute for Jinzo.
6b. If you don't like using Monsters, try using Spells and Traps. Messenger of Peace is a great card for this. It's a Continuous Spell Card that keeps all monsters with 1500 ATK or more from declaring an attack, but during your Standby Phase you need to pay 100 Life Points to keep it on the field or it's destroyed. So let's say you're playing with some strong "No Tribute" monsters (Normal and Effect Monsters with 4 or fewer Stars), but your opponent always one-ups you with a stronger monster. Play your strong, No Tribute monster, attack [if you want], then in Main Phase 2 activate Messenger of Peace. Then within a few turns you should have enough Tributes for your Gilford the Lightning. Just remember to not pay for Messenger of Peace on the Standby Phase of the turn in which you want to Summon your Tribute monster or else it's all for nothing.
More to come later.

Besides I am a Japanese at the start.
The environment in foreign countries wanted to know it.
What kind of decks are popular?
I want you to teach it if you understand the contents of the deck.
In addition, I want you to show the sites where a deck used in a meeting appears in.
Thanking you in advance.

Elemental Heroes/Neo Spacians, Destiny Heroes, and now the Evil Heroes have taken the trading card game by storm. What do you think of the new anti-heroes? I just bought a few of them, except for Malicious Edge, yesterday. When they are received, I'll add them to my E-Hero Deck, as an element of surprise... and see how they work. I'm hoping that they will release an evil version of Shining Flare Wingman soon. For now.. it's up to my Inferno Wing and she isn't too bad....

hi! what card do you think is the funniest. like, what looks like the designers found a card and slapped a random picture on? i'd go with Fusion Dragun. it looks like the guys at ygo hq ran out of ideas and found a glue stick waiting to be used.

Ok. What do people think the most pointless useless card is?
I think it would be something like succubus knight, but there are just loads of cards that see pointless. What are peoples views on this, did the deliberately design cards to be useless? why?

OK....there has been a lot of talk about Zane's Duelist pack hitting shelves this month. Many of the gripes being about how it will flood the market with Cyberdarks, Chimeras, and other rare, powerful cards. So i am asking the world of YGOL what they think about this release. Is it a good idea to have cards like these accessable to everyone? Or will it continue to create cookie cutter decks that ruin the game for good?

With all the Monarch decks in play, and the OCG release of a (Monarch??) Structure Deck 14th, which hopefully will (not

) be released here in TCG, i think it's time to vote which Monarch is the 'better' one.
Of course this does not mean that the other ones are BAD but they've become less effective in this format's Ban List...
So folks, !! VOTE !!

Do you think card trooper should/will be limited or banned on the new list? Personally, I would like to see pot of greed and graceful charity to come back to the limited list since only certain decks have received any draw support (i.e. d-hero, crystal, and e-hero decks). I think that snatch will hit the list again. I would like to see exchange come back mostly since I don't know why it was banned in the first place (please tell me if you can).

So, I got bored today and thought, “Hey…what if I made some puzzles like in the video games?” and then it hit me, I can open a topic and come up with a puzzle every week to let people try and solve them! Basically the rules are as follows:
1) You have ONE turn to win the duel.
2) You cannot use any resources except what I specifically tell you that you have available.
3) Do not post a solution unless you are POSITIVE it works.
4) If you do post, and it is not a solution, make sure it has a reason such as, but not limited to:
a. Asking a card’s effect.
b. Getting a hint. (which will be placed into a “spoilers” box)
c. Asking for specific card rulings which DIRECTLY affect the puzzle.
5) Have Fun! These puzzles are meant to bend your ideas on how the card game works! Make sure to view over ALL your options first!
6) ALWAYS assume the opponent has no hand unless I TELL you what they have.
Ok, so to start this up, here is the FIRST puzzle, which will be by far the easiest:
WATERY GRAVES
Opponents Field:
Face-Up attack Mermaid Knight: Black Pendant x3 equipped, Ride of Silence-Kay’est
Face-Up attack The Legendary Fisherman
Face-Up Gravity Bind
Field Card: A Legendary Ocean (permanent, it cannot be removed from the field for this puzzle)
Your Field:
Face-Down defense Heavy Mech Support Platform
Your Hand:
Tribute to the Doomed, Jinzo, Premature Burial, Heavy Storm, Giant Trunade, Cyber Dragon
Life Points:
You: 1400
Opponent: 4500
Can YOU win the duel in one turn? Good Luck!

The Dark Magician vs the Blue-Eyes White Dragon....who would win in battle against each other? And forget about how powerful they are (i.e. forget that the Blue-Eyes White Dragon has 3000 attack power and the Dark Magician has 2500 attack power).....Well who would win?
I personally think the Dark Magician would win...cuz, he seems like a power magician in general and I think that the Blue-Eyes White Dragon would have a bit of trouble trying to blast him to pieces....pulse, the Dark Magician could do spells on the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and wipe him out easily....
What about you? Who do you think would win?

When I look at some of the Top 8 decks for Shonen Jump I wonder how on earth those that run Diamond Dude Rush themes are able to get their hands on cards like 3 Destiny Draw, 3 Card Troopers, 3 Malicious, and some use Stratos. I see they got them using one of these methods:
1. Bought them from shops, internet, etc. (find that hard to believe, look at the prices for each but you never know)
2. Bought booster packs for them.
3. Traded.
All 3 ways seem hard to believe as the chances to get them in packs is very slim, to buy them for those prices is way out of proportion and to find the cards to trade for them is never easy.
Getting to the point, the Zane pack is coming out soon and am thinking of how I should get my hands on a few Hell Dragon and Cyberdark Dragon cards without wasting money. The price I have seen for them is $20 or $30 so all the opinons and input on the smartest and cheapest way of getting them would be appreciated.

Ok. This will vary according to whether ur a boy or a girl, but my vote goes with Elemental Hero Valkyrie from SOD.
Of course the DMG is super sexy, and some of the naughty versions on ebay are very nice...
So at the risk of sounding very sad, which card turns you on the most?
